Mountain Rose Herbs
Pure Essential Oils—Protecting Pollinators
Known for their organic, sustainably sourced, and wild-harvested herbs and spices, Mountain Rose Herbs believes that people, plants, and the planet are more important than profit. Each year, the blooms in their Pacific Northwest fields attract multitudes of pollinators—visual proof of the power of sustainable, organic agriculture. All of the company’s herbs, spices, teas, essential oils, and DIY ingredients have their roots in ancient traditions that humans have turned to for millennia—the profoundly healing beauty of nature and the natural gifts of the botanical world.
The Mountain Rose Herbs Story
In 1987, Rosemary Gladstar started a small herbal apothecary for her students at the California School of Herbal Studies. She later moved to Vermont, brought Rose Madrone on board, and Mountain Rose Herbs was born. Rose enlisted herbalist Julie Bailey, who purchased MRH and began developing a line of teas, face creams, aroma sprays, and oils. By 1999, environmentalist Shawn Donnille was helping to revolutionize the business through Zero Waste initiatives and green packaging. Today, MRH continues growing, offering sustainable, fair trade essential oils, body care teas, and more.
People And Planet Before Profit
Mountain Rose Herbs has always put people and the planet first. They never stock conventionally grown botanicals and, when certified organic ingredients aren’t available, they opt for plants grown without chemicals (often wild harvested). The first zero-waste-certified business in Oregon, they are constantly looking for innovative new ways to leave the lightest possible footprint on our precious planet.
Always Ethically Sourced
MRH offers one of the largest selections of ethically sourced, certified organic herbs, spices, and botanicals in North America. The first criteria for any botanical they purchase: its potential impact on the planet and people. If the product has a negative impact on ecosystems or human beings, it won’t be accepted. Their sourcing policy also ensures workers always receive a fair market value for the goods they grow. Having a low environmental impact is important to MRH, which is why their products are lovingly packed with recycled paper and reclaimed bubble wrap.
